The 2003 World Championships

As most of you probably know, Annia Hatch injured her knee badly (dislocated, torn ACL, torn medial and lateral meniscus) and is out of the World Championships. She will have to have surgery and a long recovery time. So she definitely needs some cheering up right now. I thought it would be nice to gather together a bunch of messages from her fans to send to her. If you would like to send her a message, e-mail me at ShanFan14@aol.com with ANNIA as the subject and write a message for her. Please send them by August 31 and I will send them to her soon after. Thanks! :-)
Courtney Kupets has torn her Achilles tendon, while training on floor. Like Annia, she is out of Worlds and facing surgery and a long recovery. So I'm going to do the same for her as I am with Annia and gather together messages to send to her. If you would like to send her a message, e-mail me at ShanFan14@aol.com with COURTNEY as the subject and write a message for her. If you are sending a message to both gymnasts, please do so in separate e-mails so I can keep them in order. Please send messages to Courtney by August 31.

Aug. 25--Second day event finals spoilers below!!! Worlds is now over.
***SPOILERS, do not continue if you don't want to know Worlds results yet!!!

Keep scrolling!!

Aug. 25--BEAM: Fan Ye gold, Catalina Ponor silver, Ludmilla Ezhova bronze
FLOOR: Daiane dos Santos gold (first one for Brazil!), Catalina Ponor silver, Elena Gomez bronze
MEN'S VAULT: Li Xiaopeng gold, Marian Dragulescu silver, Kyle Shewfelt bronze
PARALLEL BARS: Li Xiaopeng gold, Alexei Nemov, Huang Xu tied for silver
HIGH BAR: Takehiro Kashima gold, Igor Cassina silver, Alexei Nemov bronze

Aug. 24--Lots of ties today in event finals! The only event where there wasn't was a tie was women's vault, which was won by the oldest female gymnast competing in these Worlds, Oksana Chusovitina! I think it's GREAT that she is still competing at 28 years old, and is now World Champion on vault!!! :-) There was a tie for the silver medal, Elena Zamoldchikova & Kang Yun Mi. 2 Americans tied for the bars gold, Hollie Vise and Chellsie Memmel. British gymnast Beth Tweddle won the bronze. The men's results (tie for gold on all 3 events) are:
Men's floor: Paul Hamm & Jordan Jovtchev, 3rd Kyle Shewfelt
Pommel Horse: Teng Haibin & Takehiro Kashima, 3rd Nikolai Kryukov
Rings: Jordan Jovtchev & Dimosthenis Tampakos, 3rd Andrea Cappolino & Matteo Morandi
Congrats to all the gymnasts!!

Aug. 23--Svetlana Khorkina won her 3rd World AA gold! Carly Patterson won the silver and Zhang Nan the bronze. Congrats to the medalists!

Aug. 22--Paul Hamm won the AA at Worlds!!! He is the first American man EVER to win a World AA gold, and the first American since Kurt Thomas to even medal in the AA. CONGRATS!!! Yang Wei placed 2nd and Hiroyuki Tomita was third. So far, this has been a very successful Worlds for the USA!

Aug. 21--USA won the women's team gold medal, for the first time ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO TEAM USA!!! Even without 3 of the original team members (Hatch, Kupets, & Postell), they were still able to win by over a point, with 1 fall. I am SOOOOO happy for ALL 8 team members. :-) Romania placed 2nd, and Australia won it's first-ever World team medal, bronze. CONGRATS to all teams!!!!!

Aug. 20--China has won the men's team gold medal! USA won the silver and Japan won bronze. Congrats to all teams!

Aug. 20--With Courtney Kupets now injured, Chellsie Memmel & Carly Patterson will compete on all 4 events in team finals. Tasha Schwikert will vault, Terin Humphrey will do floor, and Hollie Vise will do both bars and beam. Vise will more than likely repalce Kupets in bars finals.

You have until August 6th to guess, and then I will post everyone's answers on here.
